LUCAS SAMALTANOS-FERRIER

FOUNDER & EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

Lucas Samaltanos-Ferrier had been working for many years in management as well in the international fashion industry as a model agent and image-maker, as well as a fashion director for a magazine.

With extensive knowledge in jewellery, backed up by studies in gemology (Graduate Diamonds, Graduate Colored Stones, Accredited Jewellery Professional, Graduate Pearls, Graduate Gemologist) at the internationally known Gemological Institute of America (GIA), studies of jewellery design in Florence in Italy and Certified Training in Sales Management at the Hellenic Management Association (EEDE) in Athens - one of the five largest Management Associations worldwide in terms of Membership and Activities -,  he created his creative studio and worked for few years as a custom-made jewellery & timepieces designer and gemologist, as well as a consultant for private collectors. During that period he also organized and teached seminars for  consumers and gemstone passionates.

Lucas grew-up in a multicultural environment due to the multinational family which lives in many countries. Since early childhood he has an enormous love and respect for those unique masterpieces that witness time, a unique Swiss savoir-faire.  At the same time Lucas has a passion for French elegance, culture and haute joaillerie, while he is passionate for purity, inspired from the purity & beauty of the Greek islands and sea. His choice to make for years Finland his home, was definitely also influenced by his passion for quintessential Scandinavian minimalism & design. He travels a lot to southeast Asia, for the beauty and serenity of this region.

Lucas in childhood discovered that his love and respect for our planet was part of his own DNA. The beauty of Switzerland is found in the works of Mother Nature herself as she magnificently blessed this country with the most amazing mountains and lakes ever known to man. The beauty of Greece is celebrated in its dramatic scenery combining mountain and sea, a tapestry of landscapes with an amazing array of biodiversity.  The landscape beauty of France is undeniable, from spectacular mountain ranges to rocky coastlines, regional parks to quiet oases of renown, vineyards to great forests. When later Lucas moved to Finland he felt in love with the scenic beauty of Finland. The country has an abundance of beautiful lakes and deep green woods and forests around the sea which are beyond description.

Growing and living in a multicultural environment, he developed an understanding for different cultures and values and respect for those differences.  A citizen of the world, he has lived for years in many countries and he speaks English, French, Greek, Finnish and Italian. He has also written many articles and made many interviews of important artists, fashion designers and met many important people, for websites and magazines.

With a passion for knowledge and critical inquiry, while searching new and innovative ways of delivering information that can resonate long after publication, combined to a uniquely powerful visual and textual storytelling, he decided to create the Jewellery Historian, the first free press e-magazine exclusively focused on jewellery & timepieces. The Jewellery Historian is today considered  by by many decision makers & connoisseurs as the "Best kept secret in the world of luxury". Our readership, has until now been accumulated only by word-of-mouth and in short time reached an international audience.

Lucas has a passion for nature, languages, creativity, art, design, photography, literature, history, travels. A proud supporter of diversity and equality, he has been a volunteer for NGOs and organizations for many years.

In spring 2014, he founded the Jewellery Historian and ever since he has been serving as the magazine's editor-in-chief and creative director. Few months later he decided to create the JH Travel, the periodical travel supplement of the Jewellery Historian, in order to transmit his love for nature and to show to readers the most beautiful places of our planet, with a supplement that also answers to their need to experience dedicated services, exceptional comfort and understated elegance in every stage of their journey.

In 2016, he founded edgy, in order to promote young artists, fashion photographers and designers, a magazine that portrays today the young designers that will be the world's top designers of tomorrow.
